So, Auggie…what does the other guy look like???

I took this photo of Auggie and intended to write about how he watched and looked and was aware…

Auggie has alerted me to the skunk several times…ahead of Bear.

Uh-OH.

Auggie roared into the house and immediately hid, then slunk around checking out windows and hid again. I knew something had scared him.

When he’d calmed a bit, I picked him up and thought…”gee, you have ‘stickies’ all over your face.

Not stickies…wounds.

I phoned the ER to find out what to use to clean the wounds which I described as punctures.

They said bring him in.

We went.

I was told the wounds were abrasions, not punctures.

We got antibiotics.

No damage to Auggie’s eyes and all vitals good.

“Mama, you are a worry-wart!”

Yea-yea-yea. We’ll see how the next few days go. The Auggie boy will be confined to quarters until we know that he is tolerating the antibiotic.

Looking out on a rainy day

A seriously rainy day today as in it started yesterday, continued through the night and all day today.

All day!

AND…midafternoon, my temperature gauge read 39.7F. Yep…about 8 degrees from freezing.

BUT.

I am NOT complaining.

Early June was dry and warm-hot.

We needed some moisture.

Although it seems like we are catching up in a BIG fell swoop, well – if we don’t float away, no catastrophic flooding and no mudslides, I will take it!

Auggie waiting

When Auggie does not go on a walk with Bear and I, he is ALWAYS waiting for us to return…

I hurry to the front door and call Auggie. He comes outside and looks for Bear to return – usually from the front porch wood pile.

Auggie comes along on an ever longer mid-afternoon walk. He is doing very well! He is Mr. Sociable, loving to be wherever Bear and I are. I hope this continues. He does a bit of exploring on his own but never far from one of us and when we walk, if Bear runs to move deer off the property, Auggie stays with me.

Auggie is VERY aware of large birds. Although ravens pose no threat and eagles have passed over when we’ve been out, it is owls I worry most about. This morning (9:00 a.m.) when we were out a local rooster crowed – sounding maybe a bit owl-ish. Auggie jetted inside. Bear gets after large birds if they are around so if Auggie stays near, I know Bear will do his best to keep Auggie safe.

When Bear and I go out early morning or late evening, Auggie is not interested in going out in the dark. I love that he enjoys being out with us during the day but is happy to stay in at night. And I think that he is getting plenty of exercise so settles easily at bedtime.

Happy Friday!

Wakin’ up

March blew in like the proverbial lion.

A last round of super cold with wind started yesterday and continued through the morning.

Then the sun came out.

Still very cold, but there is sun.

These photos are from earlier in the week when there was also sun.

Auggie wakes up slowly…

…and often with a cute case of bed head!

After a bit of figuring out that he really does want to get up, he gets to stretching.

Stretching the hamstrings and feet for the best running and jumping!

Then a request for a stomach rub.

“Is breakfast ready, yet???”
