Pecan Pie shortbread and the ramifications of hunting

I like Pecan Pie.

I like a small sliver of Pecan Pie…more than a sliver is too rich, too sweet … for me.

I saw Sue of The View from Great Island’s Pecan Pie Shortbread .

I don’t have a tart pan but I DO have a springform pan…why, I’m not sure as I’m not a fan of cheesecake which is the usual springform pan thing…

Not as pretty as a tart pan…

But taste was not affected at all.

re the ramifications of hunting…as I was preparing this post, there was a commotion in the living room…and a mostly dead mouse…

Bear and Auggie were upset.

Bear was the mouser.

Still.

Death is upsetting – even to natural hunters. We all sat and I tried to assure both that we definitely needed to keep mice and voles and other rodents OUTSIDE. For all of our health’s sake. But, I do understand their upset. And I am glad that neither take death lightly.

Three of us

Three of us.

I love this three.

I also miss Karl and Bob, Zack and Gus. Every day, I miss them all.

Bob… I still… it is still hard.

But.

Bear, Auggie and me: we are together now and we are family and I love us.

Everybody loves a fort

When my brother and I were kids, our mother made a cover for a card table to be our fort. It had a door.

I got tired of pulling the rug over the footstool so occasionally throw a sheet over it.

Everybody loves a fort!

A present for all of us

The most outstanding good news is that the house is once again a house UN-divided! We are all together, all of the time – even overnight. We built on the Hot dog moment with clicker training … more on that in a future post.

The key thing for Bear was learning that he could ignore Auggie if he wanted. Auggie, after several tries, trots off to find something else to do. I just read that ignoring is how the kittens in a litter help each other know if they are playing too rough. Bottom line, Bear and Auggie play together. When Bear has had enough, he stops. Auggie is respecting that and either lies down near or goes off to do something different.

In the meantime, there was a “Black Cat Sale” on Amazon for a medium sized cat tower. These are normally more than I think they are worth but the sale was very tempting and I ordered.

I had help with the assembly.

And supervision.

Bear tried to keep an eye on Auggie’s bird hunting – there were 2 hanging clumps of feathers… the birds.

The birds had extremely short lives.

But the tower was a success! Auggie plays on it, hides in the “house” and it makes a great perch for looking out a window that gives a view of the woods. Auggie has also figured out that when Bear barks from the bedroom, the tower perch provides a view of what Bear is barking at – the bedroom is on the same end of the house. The tower is Auggie’s go to run around spot when he can’t get Bear or me to play: a present for all of us.
